The thing (well one of many things) oh so sweet about bathing in nature is the opportunity to connect more deeply with place through the changing season and cycles of nature. We align with the Earth’s cycles and we watch a place grow and change just as we are ever growing and changing, shifting and cycling. Natural bodies of water are essential to the classic traditional sauna experience. But what makes a natural body of water, and especially our beloved Deschutes River the optimal cold plunge option in your traditional sauna practice?? ❄️ 1️⃣ from a purely functional outcome perspective, the river is constantly flowing which prevents you from forming a thermal barrier with your own body heat. This keeps the thermal effect at full throttle throughout the plunge for max cold shock proteins and max benefits (if the bio stats matter to you) ❄️ 2️⃣ Some folks like that in natural bodies of water we are less likely to share sweat - they are naturally more spacious and flowing thus ensuring a more “pristine” plunge experience ❄️ 3️⃣ the natural surroundings of a plunge in nature can be helpful distractions from the sting of the cold - or rather - helpful points of focus to create a sense of peace and serenity while simultaneously holding feelings of discomfort. The ducks seemingly “laughing” at our guests has been a common theme of helpful amusement while braving the cold! ❄️ 4️⃣ Most importantly as far as we are concerned, plunging “in the wild” connects us with nature in a deeply intimate and vulnerable way. We willfully submit to her elements and are rewarded in the relationship built from the shared experience. We find growth coming out of our vulnerability and we feel a deep appreciation for the recognition that we are not separate from, but very much a part of nature 🌿🍃💚 .
