This was a fun and scrappy project for clients who wanted to minimize costs and add a touch of nostalgia by incorporating wood salvaged from the Client’s Grandfather’s original homestead, milled and built with his own hands. What a special and lovely touch to be able to give that wood a second life in this heirloom quality sauna built extremely economically. The interior features our Signature Gather Built fully custom milled Western Juniper cladding for a truly unique and heavenly aromatic sauna experience. Western Juniper is also hyper-local, highly sustainable wool alternative to cedar that is eco-conscious/regenerative, durable, anti-microbial, anti-decay and rot-resistant while being extremely beautiful with unique and rustic character. The project also features a traditional exterior Shou Sugi Ban burned treatment to the salvaged cedar planks for a long lasting, low-maintenance, rot and decay-resistant look that is at once rustic, refined, and timeless.
